Candlenut Oil (also known as Kukui Nut Oil) is a carrier oil cold-pressed from the nuts of Aleurites moluccanus, a tree with deep cultural significance across Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands — where it has been used for centuries in traditional hair and skin care. Presenting as a light yellow oily liquid, Candlenut Oil is one of the richest natural sources of both linoleic acid (omega-6) and alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3), giving it exceptional skin regeneration, anti-inflammatory, and barrier-repair properties.

High polyunsaturates mean oxidation control
Candlenut (kukui) oil is valued precisely because it is rich in linoleic and alpha-linolenic acid, and the same profile makes it prone to oxidation: polyunsaturated fatty acids react with oxygen far faster than oleic-rich oils. In practice that means a shorter shelf life than stable oils such as Moringa Oil, a real risk of rancid odour in finished products, and a need to check freshness on receipt. Store it sealed, full, cool and dark; many formulators add an antioxidant such as tocopherol to the oil phase, and any antioxidant already added by the supplier should be declared.
Virgin versus refined
Virgin cold-pressed candlenut oil keeps its natural colour, light nutty odour and minor components; refined grades are paler and blander. Ask which process was used, because it affects odour, colour and oxidative stability. For comparable barrier-oil positioning, see Rosehip Oil (also high in polyunsaturates) and Jojoba Oil (a stable wax ester).
