Reishi: the common name behind a heritage mushroom

Reishi is the Japanese common name for the mushroom known in science as Ganoderma lucidum. In Chinese it is called lingzhi, and in Korean yeongji. Both names appear on labels, so buyers often meet one ingredient under several titles.

The mushroom holds a long place in East Asian culture. It appears in classical paintings, carvings and herbal texts as an auspicious symbol. Brands draw on that heritage for their product story. Heritage describes tradition, not evidence of an effect, so keep the two apart in your copy.

Where Reishivive® fits

FC Materials offers Reishivive® Reishi extract, a branded ingredient sourced from a trusted global partner. The Reishivive® branded page describes a mycelium-based extract standardised for polysaccharides. FC supplies this ingredient; it does not manufacture it.

Formats brands choose

In traditional retail, reishi is sold as dried slices, tea, extract and spore powder. For Reishivive®, the FC product page lists capsules, tablets, powders, sachets and functional beverages. Each format raises its own checks.

  • Capsules and tablets: check flow, compaction and fill weight with your chosen excipients.
  • Powders and sachets: check dispersion, colour and taste in the finished base.
  • Drinks: check solubility, sediment and behaviour during heat processing.
  • Blends: Reishivive® can stand alone as a hero ingredient or sit within a mushroom complex.

What to ask your supplier

  • A batch COA showing each marker compound named on your label, with its test method.
  • Confirmation of species and of the part used: fruiting body, mycelium or spores.
  • Results for heavy metals, microbiology and pesticide residues.
  • Halal, allergen and country-of-origin statements, plus a current specification sheet.
  • Storage advice, including whether the powder picks up moisture once opened.

Any claim on a finished reishi product must follow the rules of each market where it is sold. To discuss the Reishivive® specification, WhatsApp us.
