Pueraria Lobata Extract is a concentrated botanical extract derived from the root of Pueraria lobata (kudzu root), standardised to contain more than 40% flavonoids (UV). Kudzu root is a foundational herb in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and has been used for over 2,000 years for alcohol hangover relief, cardiovascular support, menopausal symptom management, and blood sugar regulation. The primary bioactive isoflavones — puerarin, daidzin, and daidzein — are responsible for its diverse therapeutic effects.

Pueraria Lobata Extract is particularly notable as the most concentrated natural source of puerarin — an isoflavone with unique properties for alcohol metabolism, cardiovascular protection, and oestrogen-modulating activity.

Applications:

  • Nutraceuticals (hangover relief supplements, alcohol metabolism support formulations)
  • Cardiovascular Health (blood pressure and circulation support, TCM cardiovascular tonics)
  • Women’s Health (menopausal symptom relief, phytoestrogen formulations)
  • Blood Sugar Management (glucose regulation, metabolic health supplements)

Key Features & Benefits:

  • >40% flavonoids (UV) – highly standardised isoflavone-rich extract
  • Richest natural source of puerarin – a unique cardiovascular and alcohol metabolism isoflavone
  • TCM herb with 2,000+ years of clinical use
  • Halal-certified & food-grade quality
  • Suitable for capsule, tablet, and powder formulations

Not the same as Pueraria mirifica

Pueraria lobata (kudzu, Ge Gen) and Pueraria mirifica (white kwao krua) share a genus but are different ingredients. Kudzu root’s main isoflavones are puerarin, daidzin and daidzein, while P. mirifica contains much more potent phytoestrogens such as miroestrol. The two are regulated and labelled differently, so state the species on every purchase specification and COA.

Total flavonoids versus puerarin

A “>40% flavonoids (UV)” figure is a total measured by colour reaction, and it does not tell you the puerarin content. If puerarin matters to your product, ask for puerarin (and daidzin, daidzein) by HPLC.

Formulation notes

Kudzu isoflavones are phytoestrogens, so check the warnings your market requires for pregnancy, breastfeeding and hormone-sensitive conditions. It is often positioned alongside Wild Yam Extract in women’s health blends.
