What activated bamboo charcoal is
Activated bamboo charcoal is made by carbonising bamboo and then activating it with steam or heat, which opens up a very large internal surface. That surface binds many substances, which is why activated carbon is used in filters and in medicine for some poisonings. In food it is mainly used as a black colour.
