Fatty-acid profile and why it is stable
Moringa seed oil is dominated by oleic acid (typically around 70%), with behenic acid as its signature long-chain saturate and only low levels of polyunsaturated linoleic and linolenic acid. Oxidation attacks the polyunsaturated fraction first, so this profile is the reason for its long shelf life. It also means the oil can turn cloudy or deposit crystals in cool storage as the higher-melting saturates solidify; this reverses with gentle warming and is not a defect.
Virgin versus refined, and species
Virgin cold-pressed moringa oil keeps its natural colour, nutty odour and minor components. Refined grades are paler and near-odourless, which suits fragrance use and colour-sensitive bases. Some grades are solvent-extracted, so ask which process was used, because it affects colour, odour and residual-solvent testing. Moringa oleifera is the commercial source, and the INCI Moringa Oleifera Seed Oil applies only to that species.
Where it fits
As a high-oleic, stable oil it sits alongside Camellia (Tea Seed) Oil and Argan Oil; where a lighter, wax-ester feel is wanted, compare Jojoba Oil.
