Ginger Essential Oil is a therapeutic-grade oil steam-distilled from the fresh or dried rhizomes of Zingiber officinale, presenting as light yellow to pale yellow. Unlike Ginger Powder which retains gingerols, steam distillation converts gingerols to zingerone and zingiberene — the primary aroma compounds — delivering a warm, spicy, woody-fresh ginger aroma without the heat of raw ginger, along with potent anti-nausea, anti-inflammatory, circulatory-stimulating, and digestive-relief properties that are well-validated in clinical research.

Applications:

  • Aromatherapy (motion sickness and nausea relief, digestive support, warming blends)
  • Sports & Massage (circulatory warming massage oils, muscle ache and pre-workout formulations)
  • Personal Care (warming body products, digestive massage blends)
  • Fine Fragrance (warm, spicy, fresh ginger note in oriental and citrus-spice perfume accords)

Key Features & Benefits:

  • Light yellow to pale yellow – authentic therapeutic-grade ginger essential oil
  • No animal substance – suitable for vegan and Halal-compliant formulations
  • Anti-nausea and digestive-relief properties via aromatherapy
  • Warming circulatory-stimulating action for muscle and sports formulations
  • Warm, fresh spicy ginger character for fine fragrance applications

Aroma, not pungency

Ginger’s heat comes from gingerols, which are not volatile and largely stay behind in steam distillation. The essential oil carries ginger’s aroma instead: it is dominated by sesquiterpenes such as zingiberene, together with ar-curcumene and β-sesquiphellandrene. If a formula needs ginger’s pungency or a gingerol figure, use an extract or the ground root rather than the oil — FC supplies both as Ginger Root Extract 10:1 and Ginger Powder.

Fresh or dried rhizome

Oil distilled from fresh rhizome has a brighter, more citrus-like top note; oil from dried rhizome is warmer and woodier. The two are not interchangeable in a flavour or fragrance, so confirm the source material for consistent results between lots.

Formulation notes

Ginger oil is not water-soluble and needs a solubiliser in aqueous products. Its sesquiterpenes oxidise over time, so keep stock sealed, cool and away from light. It blends well with citrus and spice oils in warming massage and flavour applications.

What to ask for on the certificate of analysis

  • GC profile with zingiberene, ar-curcumene and β-sesquiphellandrene reported individually.
  • Optical rotation, refractive index and specific gravity.
  • Country of origin and distillation date.
