African Mango Seed Extract (10:1) is a concentrated botanical extract derived from the seeds of Irvingia gabonensis, a West African fruit tree whose seeds (also known as bush mango or ogbono) have been used traditionally in African cuisine and medicine. At a 10:1 concentration ratio, this extract delivers a potent dose of fibre, polyphenols, and unique seed proteins — bioactive compounds associated with weight management, blood sugar regulation, and cholesterol support.

African Mango Seed Extract has gained significant traction in the global weight management supplement market, driven by clinical studies demonstrating its effects on adiponectin levels, leptin sensitivity, and fat metabolism.

Applications:

  • Weight Management (slimming capsules, appetite control supplements, fat metabolism blends)
  • Nutraceuticals (blood sugar support, cholesterol management, metabolic health)
  • Sports Nutrition (body composition and lean mass support formulations)
  • Functional Foods (weight management fortified products)

Key Features & Benefits:

  • 10:1 concentrated extract – potent and cost-effective
  • Clinically studied for weight management and metabolic health
  • Supports healthy blood sugar and cholesterol levels
  • Halal-certified & food-grade quality
  • Suitable for capsule, powder, and tablet formulations

Seed kernel, not the fruit

African mango extract is made from the seed kernels of Irvingia gabonensis (bush mango, ogbono), not from the fruit flesh. The kernels are rich in fat and in a mucilaginous fibre; in West African cooking, ground ogbono is used to thicken soups. Ask whether the material was defatted before extraction, because this changes the fibre and fat content of the extract.

What a 10:1 ratio tells you

A 10:1 ratio does not state any marker content. Ask which marker, if any, the supplier tests (for example soluble fibre or total polyphenols) and by which method, plus the extraction solvent and carrier.

Formulation notes

Mucilage-rich extracts swell and become viscous in water, so check dissolution in tablets and avoid it in clear drinks. Weight-management blends often pair it with White Kidney Bean Extract or Glucomannan.

What the research says

  • A 2020 meta-analysis of 5 randomised trials found lower body weight, body fat and waist circumference with Irvingia seed extract. However, 4 of the 5 trials had a high risk of bias, and the only low-risk trial found no significant difference. The authors say the evidence is limited by poor methodological quality and reporting. [1]
  • A 2013 systematic review of 3 randomised trials found that all had flaws in how their methods were reported. Adverse events included headache and sleep difficulty. The authors concluded that the effects on body weight are unproven and that the extract cannot be recommended as a weight-loss aid. [2]

These summaries describe published research on the ingredient. They are not claims for any finished product; claims on finished products must meet the rules of the market where they are sold.
