Identity is the main risk
Muira puama is the common name for Ptychopetalum olacoides, but the name has also been applied to other Amazonian woody species. Since the plant material is wood, bark or root, it is hard to identify once it is cut or powdered. Ask for the Latin name, the plant part and an identity test (TLC or HPLC fingerprint against a reference) on every batch.
What a 10:1 ratio tells you
The constituents usually reported for muira puama are sterols, triterpenes such as lupeol, and long-chain fatty acid esters. A 10:1 ratio does not state how much of any of them the extract contains, so ask which marker, if any, is tested.
Formulation and labelling notes
Men’s health products are closely watched in many markets. Check the rules on libido and erectile-function wording before you write product copy. Muira puama is often formulated with Tongkat Ali Extract, Butea Superba Extract or Tribulus Terrestris Extract.
