Apple Fiber Powder is a premium dietary fibre ingredient derived from apple pomace — the solid byproduct remaining after apple juice extraction. With a composition of 98% apple fibre and 2% water, this high-purity ingredient delivers both soluble fibre (pectin) and insoluble fibre fractions in a clean, minimally processed form. It is a natural, clean-label ingredient with excellent functional properties in food and supplement applications.

Apple Fiber Powder is valued for its prebiotic activity, digestive health benefits, and natural mild apple flavour, making it one of the most consumer-friendly dietary fibre ingredients available for health-conscious product formulations.

From pomace to fibre

Apple fibre is made by drying and milling apple pomace, the peel, core and flesh left after pressing juice. It contains insoluble fibre (cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin) and soluble fibre (mainly pectin), plus some residual fruit sugars and polyphenols from the peel. Ask for total, soluble and insoluble dietary fibre measured by a stated method, and for the sugar content, because these vary between suppliers and apple varieties.

What it does in a recipe

Apple fibre binds several times its weight in water. In bakery it holds moisture and extends softness; in meat and plant-based products it improves yield and texture; in bars and cereals it raises fibre content with a mild fruity taste. Add extra water to doughs when using it, and test colour, because it can darken light products. Related fibres include Citrus Fiber, Psyllium Husk and Inulin.

Contaminants to check

Pesticide residues concentrate in apple peel, so pomace-based fibre should be tested for them. Mouldy apples can contain patulin, a mycotoxin that many markets limit in apple products, so ask for patulin results as well.

What to ask for on the certificate of analysis

  • Total, soluble and insoluble dietary fibre with the method
  • Sugars, moisture, water-binding capacity and particle size
  • Patulin
  • Loss on drying, heavy metals (lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury) and pesticide residues
  • Microbiology: total plate count, yeast and mould, E. coli, Salmonella
  • Batch number, manufacture and retest dates
