Root and leaf are different ingredients

Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) root stores inulin and contains bitter sesquiterpene lactones (historically called “taraxacin”) and triterpenes. The leaf is richer in potassium and in phenolic acids such as chicoric acid. This 10:1 extract is described as root and leaf, so ask for the ratio of the two and which markers, if any, are tested. For a root-only, standardised option, see Dandelion Root Extract 2%.

Inulin content varies

Root inulin content changes with harvest season and drying, and an extract is rarely tested for it. If you need a defined prebiotic dose, use a dedicated fibre such as Inulin and treat dandelion as the botanical.

Allergy and labelling

Dandelion belongs to the daisy family (Asteraceae). People allergic to plants in this family may react to it, so consider an allergy statement. It is often combined with Artichoke Extract in digestive blends.
